Processor AMD Athlon™ II Series diproyeksikan untuk sistem komputasi kelas menengah yang didesain berdasar arsitektur K10 seperti halnya AMD Phenom™ II, namun pada AMD Athlon™ II Series tidak terdapat L3 Chace. AMD Athlon™ II Series diproduksi melalui teknologi proses lithographic mutakhir 45 nm SOI (Silicon-On-Insulator) dengan menempatkan lebih banyak Transistor. Processor AMD Athlon™ II Series hadir dalam tiga type, yaitu : AMD Athlon™ II X4 Quad-Core, AMD Athlon™ II X3 Triple-Core dan AMD Athlon™ II X2 Dual-Core.

Processor AMD Athlon™ II Series dikemas dalam sebuah die berukuran 117 mm² dan 169 mm², socket AM3 (938 pin). Support memory DDR2-1066 MHz / DDR3-1066 MHz untuk seri Athlon™ II X2 Dual-Core, sedangkan untuk AMD Athlon™ II X4 Quad-Core dan X3 Triple-Core mendukung hingga DDR2 1333 MHz / DDR3 1333 MHz. Selain itu Processor AMD Athlon™ II Series juga mendukung teknologi HyperTransport™ sampai 4.0 GHz Full Duplex (2.0 GHz x 2).
